The purpose of colon is to eliminate the digested food after the body absorbs all the nutrients it can from the food we eat. It helps in maintaining the electrolyte and fluid balance. What really happens is that we keep eating foods our colon is not designed to digest. Nutrients from the digested food are absorbed while the undigested food stays in colons itself. As we keep eating junk it starts forming a thick layer of mucus around the walls of the colon. This extra deposit in colons gradually starts hampering the normal functions of colon resulting in constipation, irregular bowel movements etc.

When such a situation arises some external remedy or medicine is required to clean all the mucus lining the walls of colon.   • To start with just increase your daily intake of water no matter whether you feel thirsty or not. Usually during winters we do not feel thirty and colon is deprived of the amount of water it requires.
  • Eat at least 5-7 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables. Raw vegetables are a good source of fiber which is essential of proper functioning of colons.
  • Do not overburden your digestive system by eating and drinking too much stimulants like tea, coffee, alcohol etc.

These apart make sure that you take exercise regularly. No physical activity makes the system even more sluggish.
