One of the most popular colon cleanse methods is 7 day colon cleanse. This however gives rise to question “is 7 day colon cleansed really effective”? The answer to this question lies in what exactly you need. Colon cleansing implies that your gastrointestinal tract is completely cleaned of the fecal matter.

Is it Bowel cleansing or simply gastrointestinal cleansing? What is the difference?  There are several products that prevent accumulation of waste matter in the bowel without cleansing the waste that is already accumulated there.  While it is possible to clean your bowels by using 7 day colon cleanse method, it will not guarantee a complete toxin free colon.

If fiber rich supplement is taken it will simply ensure that the food we eat is passed through the digestive system without accumulating there. However if old sludge is not cleared this kind of colon cleanse will be of no use. 7 day colon cleanses work the same way. Some are based on psyillium which completely flush out all the waste deposited in the colons while others simply cure constipation.

In this process the whole intestinal flora is disturbed resulting in various side effects. Dehydration is the first side effect we notice as a result of this sudden flushing of everything from our colons.  Not only does it detoxify and kill the bad bacteria but also good bacteria are killed which need to be replenished as soon as possible to avoid any further complication.

It is therefore highly advisable to go for products that work slowly and maintain the overall flora of intestine and does not cause any side effect. Usually good colon cleansers take 30 days to clean the colons without any side effect. Remember depositing of sludge takes years before it shows its first sign; therefore it cannot be cured in a week’s time. It will take its time; supplements can only speed up the process.
